Some of the rehabilitative treatments we provide

rehab services

Regenerative medicine technology takes the body’s own cells that have the capability to heal and harnesses them into a biological treatment. The technology is able to specifically concentrate the patient’s own platelets and or bone marrow stem cells to improve and accelerate healing in a very safe treatment. Although regenerative medicine therapy is considered cutting edge technology, the benefits have been studied in dogs for about 20 years as the model for human applications.

Therapeutic exercise/rehabilitation medicine Therapeutic exercise is the backbone or "the core" of any rehabilitation therapy program. It is used in conjunction with other modalities to foster comfortable range of motion, to build and strengthen muscles, to improve balance and performance of daily activities, to promote weight loss, and to increase confidence. Targeted exercise also helps improve neuromuscular functioning and the patient's own sensory awareness of his or her body.

Electrical stimulation, also called e-stim, is recommended and a valuable tool for pets recovering from orthopedic surgery, fracture repairs, spinal cord injuries, or several other neurological or orthopedic conditions in which the use of a limb is inhibited. It helps to relieve muscle spasms, prevents muscle atrophy, improves joint mobility and circulation, increases muscle mass and strength, and decreased pain.

We offer a multimodal approach to pain management, combining the best in physical medicine techniques, including therapeutic laser and Electrical stimulation, with pain relieving pharmaceuticals and nutritional supplements.

Post-operative care includes individualized rehabilitation programs that not only help speed healing time, but also can improve post-operative recovery for your pet.

Learn how Sylvan Veterinary Hospital can help to keep your pet's senior years more active and comfortable and treat pain for arthritis.

Therapeutic laser therapy is a painless use of laser energy to generate a photochemical response in damaged or dysfunctional tissue. It provides energy in the form of light waves that change cellular metabolism. This helps to reduce inflammation, enhance blood flow, and speed tissue healing.

Therapeutic massage is a hands-on manipulation of targeted muscle areas. Suitable for treating both acute and chronic musculoskeletal conditions, massage is effective for increasing circulation, reducing muscle spasms, relieving tension, enhancing muscle tone, promoting healing, and increasing joint mobility.

Therapeutic ultrasound is a method of stimulating tissue beneath the skin's surface using sound waves. It is a very high frequency massage that penetrates below the surface of the skin and warms the soft tissue. Generally used in combination with other modalities for pain relief, therapeutic ultrasound is frequently used to treat conditions such as hip dysplasia, degenerative joint disease, osteoarthritis, tendonitis, and bursitis. It is also very often used for post-op patients.

Our underwater treadmill use in hydrotherapy is effective in rehabilitation medicine because it allows the patient to move more easily in a reduced weight-bearing environment. Basically, this means that patients are more able to exercise their muscles without their own body weight putting pressure on sore joints or limbs, allowing the patient to gradually increase muscle mass with less discomfort.

Weight management is an important part of maintaining your pet's health. Obesity is associated with many canine and feline health problems including arthritis, heart disease, and diabetes.

Just wanted to let you know that Allie is doing great after Lap Spay on 4-10-12. Took her one day and she was back to normal. What a great way to get a dog spayed- I will recommend it to all my friends. Here is a photo of Allie that I took yesterday in our pasture with California Poppies. I thought it was cute! Thanks again!!

I have been taking my Beagle, Destiny, to Sylvan Vet for the last 10 years. She has had many medical problems throughout her life. There were times that I didn’t think she was going to pull though, yet, with wonderful Veterinarians like Dr. Tiffany Cardoza and Dr. Kipp Magnussen, she is still here with me today. I am grateful for their expertise in knowing exactly what she needs and for their compassion towards the both of us, in our hour of need. We are very blessed to know that compassionate help is always there. My deepest thanks and appreciation.

Sylvan Veterinary Hospital has been an important part of our family’s life for several years now. Most recently they helped to preserve our pug Sweetie’s vision with a new surgery technique. Everyone in the hospital works diligently to serve our needs. There is open communication with the front office staff, the technicians and the doctors whenever necessary. Our concerns and questions are always addressed quickly and the doctors are always available to us whenever needed.

I can’t say enough about the miraculous results you can get from laser therapy. I used it for my puppy’s foot wound that wouldn’t hold stitches. The wound was completely closed in three treatments-without a scar! Also, this pup has elbow dysplasia and laser has helped him quickly regain soundness when he played too roughly. And the best part- it’s not expensive. I’m a tried-and-true believer of this technology.

Eleven years ago, Dr. Kipp Magnussen saved the life of my young kitten and I was genuinely impressed with his compassion and competence. Over the years I have been extremely happy with the care all the vets and vet techs have provided for my various dogs and cats. In addition, it is a mark of commitment to the highest standards of quality medical care that Sylvan Vet is accredited through the AAHA. I continue to highly recommend this clinic.

We have been a client of Sylvan Vet for the past 20 years. Just recently, Bodie, our Chocolate Lab experienced a wound to his back that was quite serious. After two months of patience, determination and constant care by Dr. Kipp Magnussen, Bodie has been nursed back to health. Kipp's staff has become family to us. Each and every one of them is kind, friendly and compassionate! Bodie just celebrated his tenth Birthday and is even swimming again. Thank you Sylvan Vet!!
